Already at the age of 5 the flutist startet playing piano and recorder. At the age of 12 she discovered the flute for herself and won the first prize in the competition “Jugend musiziert” at the age of 17.
Her studies led her to the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe followed by the concert exam
at the Conservatoire de musique in Genève, under famous flute player Maxence Larrieu. A huge influence on her playing had the Irish flute player James Galway who mentored her for several years.
Saskia Schneider’s international career began in 1986 when she was invited to Indonesia by the Goethe-Institut for playing with the pianist Surjani Bahari. For many years she performed with different orchestras and also the Phantasmagoria Jazz Quartet. The CD „Crying with laughter“ was edited with this band in Great Britain.
The extensive repertoire and her extraordinary charming art of performing took the flute player as soloist to all countries of the European Union and Switzerland as well as to the USA, Russia and the Ukraine. She performed on the radio for public-broadcasters like WDR, SWF, and SDR as well as for Polish radio in Warsaw and Opote. Her musical partners are amongst others the Brazilian pianist Vania Pimentel, the Polish pianists Marek Mizera, Piotr Machnik and Milena Kędra. Together with the pianist Wojtek Gogolewski and the harpist Anna Faber she published several CDs.
Nowadays she is living in Frankfurt where in 2002 she founded the ensemble and the society „Die Blaue Blume“ with the support of the Frankfurt city council and the Sparda-Bank Hessen eG. Their cycle of 16 annual concerts in Frankfurt is – “inbetween arts” – combining literature, chamber music as well as visual presentations and the ensemble became an important part of the cultural life, not only of Frankfurt.
